Personality Son

This is the project I worked on during 2001 when I was seventeen/eighteen. It started off with a series of experimental collaborative recordings with friend and fellow Koept artist, Iermoc. Recording live onto my 8 track, I was using familiar and unfamiliar instruments and equipment (my drum kit, various synthesizers, a pocket sampler, CD players skipping, radio interference…) and tried to play and use them as openly and freely as possible. This way of working was new and exciting to me and I had no exact aim or direction, the whole process was more about discovery. These early bits and pieces ended up on the Iermoc and Personality Son album, "…".

My next project (Personality Son, "Contaminate That Won") allowed me to grow and build on my experiments with more confidence and direction. There was still plenty of experimentation but it was clearer what techniques worked well for me. I used similar equipment as before and the same 8 track for recording. Each track was recorded live in one take, and I would layer the sounds on top of one another without too much thought of the final outcome. I just played what felt right. This way of working meant I could finish a piece in one or two sessions. I would start an idea and finish it off in between my kitchen porter shifts. I made ten tracks in total, nine of which ended up on the album.

The last track I made as Personality Son is on the Koept 12 inch, "[Inept-05]". It is titled "Derehctub", the name I have chosen for my current project. All recordings mentioned can be found in the main menu under output.
